From the Board of Directors
NIMCon is committed to offering events that meet the needs of our directors. This year is no exception, and we recognize that Contest/Festival will need to look differently than it usually does. In addition, we are offering support for our directors, many of whom are finding themselves in new and unusual teaching situations. We plan to offer a monthly round table over Zoom, where directors can share their ideas and concerns and learn from other local directors. In addition, we have a Facebook group (NIMCon) that has the potential to be a place for discussions among directors as well. Please like us!
Membership Meeting
The annual membership meeting will take place on Zoom on Monday, September 21 at 7:00 PM. A link will be sent out closer to the date. Agenda items will include contest, budget, using Zoom and Facebook for professional development, and election of Board of Directors. We are looking forward to discussing everyone’s ideas for contest for this school year. If you are unable to make the meeting but would like to contribute your ideas, please email them to: nimusicconference@gmail.com.
The slate for the Board of Directors includes: Ellen Singer-President, Elise Matusek-Vice President, Margaret Delligatti-Secretary, Sara Kumpula- Treasurer, Riley Broach-Web Master, Jim Garbrecht-Judge Hirer, Steve Stenzel-Judge Hirer. Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the meeting.
Ideas for 2020-2021 Contest Season
The BOD met on August 24 to discuss ideas for this school year. There was a general consensus to consider a virtual Solo and Ensemble Contest, and not offer a Festival for organizations. We would like to hear about what YOU need for this year. If you have ideas regarding a format for Contest, please email us. We would love to have your feedback BEFORE the membership meeting, so that we can plan better.
Do we have any tech savvy music teachers out there? We are specifically looking for a platform to be used for directors to record student performances and storage for the recordings which can then be shared with judges.
Membership fees TBD
Membership applications will be accepted for the 2020-21 school year AFTER the membership meeting. It is important that EVERY director in your school district register each year if they plan to participate. Look for membership information in the next newsletter!
