Art Hildebrand Music Festival

Clinician Steve Katz working with orchestra.

formerly known as Little People’s Festival

Art Hildebrand was a well-respected musician and music educator in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago for many years. His profound impact on students continues to this day. In addition to his role as a founding member of the Northern Illinois Music Conference (NIMCon) he established the festival now named in his honor.

The Art Hildebrand Music Festival began in 2000 in North Chicago as the Little People’s Band Festival. The intent of this festival has been to allow bands, and now orchestras, a performance and clinic without the adjudication of contest. It is designed for younger ensembles, or ensembles that do not meet daily or meet in parts coming together for performances.

Now hosted in the beautiful new theatre space at Sunset Ridge School in Northfield, IL, this Festival offers a 40 minute performance and clinic time with “judges'” comments. Performance times are during the day, therefore, space outside the theatre is limited. We offer a place to store cases, coats, etc. and brief warm-up. We do not have the space to have a full-fledged warm-up space.

We look forward to hosting again this year and hope to take on a few new ensembles, especially orchestras. Registration will be open first to the ensembles who have been taking part in the independent festival over the years until October 1. At that time, it will be open to others with a cap of 12 bands and 6 orchestras. Please contact Hilary Logan at with any questions regarding the festival.
